Executive Director/Counselor Position Description



POSITION DETAILS:


Position Title:   Executive Director/Counselor 

Reports to:   Board of Directors 

Position Status:   Full-time, exempt

Base Salary:  $90,000 (negotiable) (benefits and compensation package to be determined)

Location:   Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Maryland

ABOUT US:

Established in 1964, Rainbow Christian Services (RCS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help children and families in need. RCS’s newest program, His Place for Grace, is a counseling service with a similar mission that exists to support the church body by offering professional Christian counseling services and ministering in multiple arenas of mental health care. 


ABOUT THE POSITION:

At His Place for Grace, we understand that life can be difficult and sometimes people need someone to talk to. Thus, we’re looking for a Christian counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate should be a member of the Churches of Christ. As a Christian counselor, you will provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals of diverse backgrounds who are struggling with personal issues. You will listen to their concerns, offer advice, and pray with them. You will also provide resources and referrals to other professionals, as needed. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others, as well as experience in counseling, social work, or a related field.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide professional Christian counseling  services to individuals, couples, and families in a confidential setting
  • To help clients identify personal goals and work towards positive change in their lives
  • To use a variety of counseling  techniques and interventions, informed by psychological principles and the  teachings of Christianity
  • To maintain accurate and up-to-date      clinical records with standard software
  • To collaborate with other professionals, as needed, to best serve the needs of clients
  • To participate in regular supervision of others and consultation to ensure ethical and professional      practice
  • To keep abreast of developments in the field of Christian counseling through reading professional literature  and attending workshops and conferences
  • To model Christ-like behavior in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and the community


REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited institution
  • 3-5 years of professional counseling experience
  • Licensed as a counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia or  be eligible to obtain such license and do so within first 3 months of being hired
  • Strong clinical skills with  demonstrated ability to provide effective Christian counseling
  • Knowledge of Biblical principles and  application
  • Ability to integrate faith into counseling


PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate degree in counseling,      psychology, social work, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional counseling      experience
  • Experience working in a church or      other ministry setting
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Professionally credentialed or eligible to be credentialed.

· Successful completion of a criminal background, a child protection services and a driving record check.

· Professional and personal references must be provided. 

· This position requires the Counselor to live in the Metropolitan Area (Washington, DC, Northern Virginia or Maryland) and to work from the program office. Additionally, the Counselor will be expected to travel outside of the office to meet with clients, attend meetings, conferences, events, fundraisers, etc. and to meet with church leadership, as needed.
